Good Spot · Sinchang Beach, Hangyeong-myeon, Jeju
Right beside the windmill coastal road,
a small stretch of sand tucked away quietly

Hi, I'm GYULI, the tangerine sprite who's lived on Jeju's oreum for a hundred years. Not long ago I told you about Sinchang Windmill Coastal Road, the drive along the coast of Sinchang-ri in Hangyeong-myeon. That time I focused on the drive course itself, lined with large wind turbines. Today I want to talk about the same Sinchang-ri coast from a different angle. It's a small beach said to sit right along that windmill coastal road — Sinchang Beach. Some of you may only know it as scenery that flashed by your car window during a drive. Today I'll introduce Sinchang Beach from the perspective of stepping out of the car for a bit, walking on the sand, and facing the sea. I already covered the windmills plenty last time, so I'll keep that part brief today and focus on the beach itself, sharing honestly only what GYULI actually knows.

Sinchang Beach — Right Beside Sinchang Windmill Coastal Road

Sinchang Beach is said to sit on the coast of the Sinchang-ri area in Hangyeong-myeon, Jeju City. It's said to fall right along the stretch that Sinchang Windmill Coastal Road, introduced earlier, runs through, so it's a spot that naturally comes into view while driving that road. My earlier piece focused on the bigger picture of the road and the windmills, but this time I want to zoom in on just the beach that quietly sits beside it. Since Hangyeong-myeon sits at the westernmost edge of Jeju, it's said to have a different feel from widely known beaches like Hyeopjae or Hamdeok, and Sinchang Beach is often introduced as one of those small beaches carrying that same quiet, west-coast atmosphere.

I want to be careful about stating the exact size of the sandy area or how it's operated — that's not something GYULI can confidently put a number on. What I do hear often, though, is that it's smaller in scale than widely known large beaches like Hyeopjae or Hamdeok, and that relatively fewer people visit. Maybe that's why, even during peak summer season, it's often described as staying fairly quiet rather than crowded — though that can feel different depending on when and in what weather you visit, so please take it as general guidance. Rather than a beach built up with shops and facilities, it's said to feel more like a small rest stop where you pull over for a moment to get a close look at the sea.

It felt like too much of a shame to just look at the windmills and drive past — there was a little sea right there worth stepping out of the car for.

A View Where the Water, the Sand, and the Windmills Come Together

The feature that comes up most often about Sinchang Beach is being able to see the windmills and the sea together in one place. Standing on the sand and turning your head, the large wind turbines lined along Sinchang Windmill Coastal Road are said to come into view, and the combination of blue sea, white sand, and windmills slowly turning in the distance, all within a single frame, is often introduced as this spot's own charm. Seeing the windmills you watched through the car window this time from the sand, at eye level, is said to leave a different impression than experiencing the same Sinchang-ri coast from the road.

I don't have much confirmed information about the exact water color, depth, or condition of the sand, so I'll be careful here. Since the strong winds known to hit Jeju's west coast are said to affect this area too, it's reasonable to guess that the waves and currents can vary quite a bit with the weather. Whether it's an officially operated swimming beach, or whether safety staff or facilities are in place, isn't something GYULI can confidently confirm, so if you're planning to swim, I'd recommend checking the local conditions once more before you visit. Since it may not be as equipped as the larger beaches, it's worth being a bit more careful about safety while you enjoy it.

Worth Knowing Before You Go

Since Sinchang Beach sits right within the stretch of Sinchang Windmill Coastal Road, it seems like a good spot to pull over for a bit if you're already there to enjoy the drive. That said, being right along the road, space to park is said to be limited, so it's worth looking for a designated spot or a safe patch of shoulder. If you're expecting a large parking lot or a row of shops like at Hyeopjae or Hamdeok, it might feel fairly modest — though many describe that same quietness as exactly what makes Sinchang Beach worth visiting.

Since this is known as a windy area, it seems safer to check the wind and wave conditions once more while spending time at the beach. If you're planning to let kids swim here, keep in mind it may not be a spot with safety staff on hand the way an official swimming beach would be, so please stay alert even in the shallows. If you're driving along Sinchang Windmill Coastal Road, don't just watch the windmills from inside the car this time — stepping out at Sinchang Beach for a bit, sand underfoot, taking in the sea and the windmills together, could turn out to be a pretty good experience.

That's about as much of the Sinchang Beach story as I've got for today. Don't just watch the windmills and leave — step out and walk on the sand too. Seeing the sea and the windmills together will feel different.
