Citrus history and a greenhouse stroll,
said to come together in one place

Mention Jeju and citrus is probably the first thing that comes to mind, but not many people know there's a single space where you can trace the history and cultivation culture of that citrus in one visit. The Citrus Museum, located at Hyodonsunhwan-ro 441 in Seogwipo, is said to be a museum that, true to its name, traces the history and cultivation culture of Jeju citrus. GYULI has told you before about citrus as a fruit itself — today, let's take a slightly different angle and carefully unpack what the Citrus Museum is like as a space: the building, the exhibits, how it's all laid out.

Said to Be an Exhibit Space Where You Can Trace Citrus History and Cultivation Culture

Inside the Citrus Museum, there's said to be an exhibit space that lays out, era by era, how citrus has been grown on Jeju. Tools said to have once been used in citrus farming, along with materials showing how cultivation methods have changed over time, are said to be on display — though exactly how many artifacts are shown isn't something I'd want to state definitively here, since the lineup may change over time. The exhibit descriptions are said to be written in fairly plain language, so it's said to be comfortable to read through slowly with kids in tow.

The building itself is said to combine an indoor exhibit hall with a connected greenhouse space. The layout is said to be designed so that after taking in the history and culture of citrus indoors, visitors then move on into the greenhouse — and I've heard from more than one visitor that seeing the real trees and plants right after reading about them makes the story feel like it comes to life in front of you.

After reading about citrus history in words and photos, walking into the greenhouse felt like that same story was suddenly unfolding in real branches and leaves right in front of me.

Said to Feature a Variety of Citrus Trees and Subtropical Plants in the Greenhouse

One of the spaces most often singled out at the Citrus Museum is the greenhouse. Inside, alongside the tangerines most of us are familiar with, a variety of other citrus trees are said to be growing together, letting visitors compare different citrus varieties — each with its own size, color, and shape — all in one place.

The greenhouse is also said to be planted with other subtropical plants beyond citrus, though exactly how many species and which ones can vary by season and upkeep, so I'd rather not state that definitively here. Still, simply strolling slowly through the greenhouse's warm, humid air, taking in unfamiliar plants, is said to make for a walk unlike any other. Glasses and camera lenses are said to fog up occasionally in the humid air, so if you're planning to take photos, it's worth giving your gear a moment to adjust first.

Said to Also Run Experience Programs

Beyond simply viewing the exhibits, the Citrus Museum is also said to run experience programs related to citrus. I don't have anything confirmed about exactly what these programs involve or how they change by season, so I'd rather stay careful here. If you're planning a visit, it's worth checking ahead of time whether any programs are running and planning your schedule around that. There's also mention of a hands-on craft program using citrus that has been offered before, though its lineup is also said to change by season, so please take that as reference only.

The admission fee and exact operating hours are also said to change depending on the season, so it's worth checking the latest information before you visit. As a place where you can slowly take in the history and cultivation story behind a fruit most of us think we already know, moving between the exhibit hall and the greenhouse, the Citrus Museum seems like an easy addition to a Seogwipo itinerary. Several other travel spots are also said to be located nearby, so pairing them together into a half-day course could be a good way to plan your visit.
